Tone It Up 5-Day Detox

Only Katrina and Karena from Tone It Up could get me to attempt a 5-Day Detox. I’ve always been a bit iffy on detoxes, but if K & K say to detox, you try a detox. If you don’t know who Kat and Karena are or you’ve never heard of TIU before, you must live under a rock because they are a force in the fitness community.

I started doing their workouts on their YouTube channel, probably about 2 and a half years ago, and I was way late to the party! They have clean, plant-based protein powders, bars, and bites available at Target (the protein powder is also available at CVS), along with some work out gear. They also launched their own app, that has all of their previous YouTube workouts along with a ton of new ones available in the On-Demand section, or you can schedule a class to exercise with the TIU community from the comfort of your own home. I believe you still get a 7-day free pass when you first sign up, then you can pay monthly or yearly through the app store. Enough chit-chat lets talk about the detox!

Why Detox

This Tray Bake was so good!

The point of the TIU detox isn’t to starve yourself and only live off of juices for 5-days. You don’t just focus on what you’re eating. This detox is designed to help get your home, mind, and body clear of unnecessary toxins so you can refocus on your goals and set new ones. It also helps you de-bloat and feel leaner.

The Rules

Do
-Drink at least 90 oz of water throughout the day, and this so important to make sure you complete
-Start your morning with the Morning Mocktail
-Make sure you’re eating healthy fats

Don’t
-No High Fructose Corn Syrup
-No Fried foods
-No alcohol (just for 5 days)
-No Creamy Dressings
-No Dairy (this was a tough one for me)
-Avoid starches after meal 3
-No cookies, pastries, donuts, or baked goods (unless they are TIU approved)
-No chips, pretzels, cereals, or buttery crackers
-No soda
-No frozen dinners
-No fake sugars, aspartame, sweet ’n low or equal
-No corn, oats, or wheat

It may seem like a lot of things you can’t eat, leaving little left that you can, but you can still have lean proteins, healthy fats and lots of fruits and veggies. You can even have coffee, but none of those sugary drinks! Only iced coffee, hot coffee or straight espresso with NO added sugars and a splash of almond or coconut milk. If you usually drink 2 cups a day limit it to 1, you have a lot of water to drink.

They also want you to aim for 1 workout per day, and of course, they had exercises planned for the week in the app.

The Meal Plan

They provided a sample meal plan as well, with 5 meals a day, and they wanted you to space them out, so they are 3 hours apart. They also had recipes with the detox kit, plus their website has a ton of recipes. I tried to stick to the meal plan as closely as I could, but I work Monday through Friday 40hrs a week so for me 5 meals a day 3 hours apart isn’t realistic, so I had to make so adjustments. They also say if you don’t like an ingredient to change it out for something you like, as long as it fits the detox guidelines.

The Detox

The first two days were relatively easy for me, I only had a slight headache throughout most of Day one. Day three, I was ready to murder someone. I was incredibly cranky and really just wanted some bread. Day four and five were fine, though, and I made it through with no real issues. I found I didn’t really miss the added sugars, I just really wanted some bread and cheese.

The Results

These jeans are a 26 waist, they used to fit perfectly.

Saturday was my first day off of the detox, so I made sure to weigh myself, I ended up losing 2.5 lbs in the 5 days. My clothes were a lot looser, but I felt great. Since ending the detox, I’ve limited my carbs and added sugars. Most days I do great, but every once in awhile I have an extra piece of bread or a donut. I’ve lost an extra half pound since the detox, and I think I’ve hit my ideal weight and now just need to add more muscle.

Final Thoughts

I don’t know if I would do this detox again, but I’m honestly glad I tried it and made it through. Being Vegan for 5 days was tougher than I thought it would be but not impossible. Have you done the TIU detox? If so, what did you think? What were your results? Mahalo for reading!
