Being a HUGE Harry Potter fan, okay I’m obsessed, I was excited to find out there is a Harry Potter themed cafe in Chino Hills, CA. I’ve been wanting to pay Platform 909 a visit for a while now, especially since it’s not too far from where I get my hair done. For whatever reason, I’ve put it off until now! I finally made my way over to Platform 909, and I have mixed feelings.
Is super cute for an HP nerd like myself. There is a broom hanging from the wall, you can find a mini Dobby, Fluffy, wands, and other memorabilia on the shelves behind the counter. They even have Hedwig in a cage close to where you order. The entire inside is brick, which reminds me of the entrance to Diagon Alley in the Leaky Cauldron.
The menu is pretty extensive, they have your typical espresso-based drinks, along with cold brew and pour-overs, they sell a chai latte and matcha latte, along with boba, frappe, slush, and a wide variety of teas. As for food, they have a dessert waffle, bagels, sandwiches, fry’d tofu, they have an RTE case that has assorted cereals it looked like, and a large pastry case.
WHAT I GOT
I’ve seen pictures on their Instagram of donuts that looked delicious, and I was incredibly ready for one with my coffee, but when I got there, around noon, the pasty case was practically empty. What they did have left looked like pastries and muffins from Costco, which isn’t a bad thing, it’s just not what I wanted. I ended up going with my go-to, a mocha. The microfoam was beautiful, the milk was perfectly aerated, the mocha was a tad too sweet for my liking, and I couldn’t really taste the espresso. Overall it was a decent mocha. If the espresso bags on the shelves were any indication, they use Reborn Coffee, which is another SoCal coffee shop/roaster located in Brea Hills, CA.
The shop had a few people working away when I arrived. It was incredibly warm inside, and it made me not want to stay long. The barista was by herself, she was super friendly, and she informed me she was new to latte art when handing off my drink, but I think she did a great job with it. She did get a little rush of people while I was there and she handled it like a pro. I would have liked to hear the soundtracks to Harry Potter playing in the cafe instead of whatever music they did have on. Would I come back? Maybe, I haven’t decided yet. I still have mixed feelings, and I can’t figure out why I’m so indecisive about this place.
Have you been to Platform 909? If so, what are your thoughts? Are there more Harry Potter themed cafes out there that I need to visit? Let me know in the comments. Mahalo for reading!
