Perfect Afternoon in Malibu and Santa Monica

{LA Local} We headed back to Malibu Wine Safari for another amazing safari. Check out how to spend the Perfect Afternoon in Malibu and Santa Monica in this new post.In August Michelle and I experienced a wine safari in the canyons of Malibu. We loved it so much we went back in October for our friend Bri’s birthday. This wine safari was a bit different from the first one if you missed my first Malibu Wine Safari post you can catch it here.

What was different?

For this safari we were on the turtle truck, our first stop was still the Oak Grove for the white wine tasting. The lineup was similar to the August tasting, with one wine change. Instead of having Stanley the Giraffe’s Moscato we got to try a 2016 Riesling. It was a nice change from Stanley’s wine since that wine was a bit on the sweeter side.

Next, we were off to feed some animals! We still got to feed the llamas and the zebra but this time we also got to feed the Highland Scottish Cattle, two sisters named Ginger and Spice.

Our next stop, was the main attraction, Stanley the Giraffe!

After Stanley got all his romaine lettuce, we stopped by a small lake and what used to be their on-site air bnb, now they use the building as an office space. Here we tasted the red wines. Two out the three were the same as last time, the only change was instead of the Merlot we tried a 2016 Zinfandel. I really enjoyed the Zinfandel, in fact, it was my favorite wine of the day. This was pretty much the end of the safari after everyone finished up their wine we headed back to the check-in location and the safari was complete!

Where to next?

After the safari, we headed to Santa Monica and went to dinner at Casa Martin Mexican Restaurant before sitting in two hours worth of LA traffic.

Casa Martin is locally owned and family operated. They offer the freshest, most traditional Mexican cuisine from the region of Jalisco. Right now, they have one location on Ocean Avenue, just two blocks from the Santa Monica Pier. There is a free small parking lot behind the restaurant or there is public parking across the street at Lot 30 (1665 Ocean Avenue). Casa Martin is opening a second location in summer 2019 and it will be located in Downtown Santa Monica on the Third Street Promenade, how exciting is that?!

The current location is smaller and simply decorated. The menu all sounded amazing, I had a hard time deciding what to get. They do have vegetarian and vegan options as well. I ended up getting a strawberry margarita to go with my combo. For the combo I got a soft taco made with steak it’s topped with onions and cilantro and a cheese enchilada which was topped with red salsa, cheese, and sour cream, the combo also comes with rice and beans. Let me tell you, this was the best Mexican food I’ve had in a really long time. Everything was delicious, so delicious in fact, there was nothing left on my plate by the time I was done eating. I highly recommend this restaurant if you find yourself in the Santa Monica area.

There you have it! The perfect way to spend the day in Malibu/Santa Monica. Depending on what time your safari is, you could probably fit more into the day. Our safari was at 1:30pm and we were coming from sixty-one miles away, in the San Gabriel Valley so we were trying to avoid as much traffic as possible. Our safari ended around 3pm and by the time we got to the restaurant it was about 4:30ish after dinner we still hit about 2hrs worth of traffic so for us this was a good, long day but so worth it!
