Travel, especially air travel can wreak havoc on your skin. Between the dry/stale and recirculated cabin air, jet lag, pre-travel stress, climate change and lack of water there are a lot of factors that can cause your skin to dry out or even worse break out when you travel. Over the years my skin has changed a lot, I now have very sensitive and oily skin which creates a problem for me when I travel. I’ve tried numerous skincare products over the years and finally found a regimen that works not only for my daily routine but when I travel as well. Without further ado, these are the skincare products I never travel without.
Is a specially formulated gentle foaming cleanser that helps remove dirt and debris without drying out my skin. It also helps maintain my skins pH levels so my oily skin doesn’t kick into overdrive, which is especially important to me when I’m traveling to Maui. The key ingredients in this miracle cleanser are squalane, apricot kernel oil, vitamin E and avocado oil.
I’ve been using a Clarisonic since the release of the original one. I was going to wait until my first one broke to upgrade to the Mia 2 but these things last forever so I asked for a new one a few Christmases ago. The Mia 2 is great at removing makeup and has 2 speeds-delicate and universal. I use the delicate on a daily basis and move it up to universal when I travel and feel my skin needs a bit more deep cleaning. I can’t go longer than a couple days without using my Clarisonic if I do, I notice a big change in the way my skin looks and feels. I pair my Mia 2 with the sensitive face brush head 97% of the time, I’ll switch my brush head to the deep pore brush head during the summer or if I’m traveling some place with high humidity.
SPF in my moisturizer is really important to me for a couple of reasons. One, like I said before I have very sensitive skin that burns easily. Two, I live in Southern California where it’s still 90 degrees in September. It’s also important to me that my moisturizer isn’t heavy and absorbs completely into my skin. This moisturizer does all of that plus makes my skin smooth and soft. The key ingredients in this moisturizer are: Antarcticine and Fountain Plant. Antarcticine is a glycoprotein known to moisturize dry skin, it also helps defend and hydrate skin in extremely cold temperatures. The Fountain Plant is known to resist droughts which helps boost skin hydration. This moisturizer is great for all skin types.
This is my go-to acne spot treatment! It helps to rapidly reduce the appearance of acne. I’ve noticed it helps reduce redness and inflammation within a day and usually my breakouts are gone in a couple days. It’s formulated with Mineral Sulfur and Vitamin B3. I was a little worried when I read this product has Mineral Sulfur in it but to my surprise it didn’t irritate my sensitive skin.
Bath & Body Works Aqua Cool Aloe Lotion
I was so excited when I saw this in stores! I like BBW lotions but generally the scents are overwhelming and the lotions are heavy on my skin which causes me to break out on my arms and legs. This aloe lotion is lighter, absorbs quickly into the skin and the scent isn’t overwhelming. I got this aloe lotion in Island White Sand. I checked the website and unfortunately I can’t find it anymore, I don’t know if it was a seasonal item or not, I’m hoping it isn’t because I love this product.
Is my go-to lotion for colder months or when I travel to destinations like Chicago where the wind is no joke. This lotion is fast absorbing and has Vitamins C, E and B5 in it. It’s unscented, which I like and isn’t heavy or greasy on the skin.
I know, not very glamorous but when a product actually works who cares how much it costs. Softlips leaves my lips feeling moisturized and protected all day. They are slim enough to fit in my cosmetic bag without taking up much space, which is another plus. My favorite flavors to use are watermelon and raspberry.
I love this body wash because it’s oil-free and helps prevent body acne. It features maximum strength acne medicine, salicylic acid and is boosted by oil-blasting MicoClear technology. It doesn’t dry out my skin, it smells fantastic and contains naturally derived grapefruit extract plus vitamin C. If I can’t find this particular body wash in store I’ll switch to their regular Body Clear Body Scrub, I don’t like this version as much but it will do in a pinch.
Is a newer product to my skincare line up, but it’s a good one. I first met Magen in 2014, when she was tattooing in San Francisco (she tattooed a badass cup of coffee and cupcake on my ribs) Now, Magen and her family live in Oregon where she created an amazing skincare line. Her tattoo aftercare/moisturizer is amazing! I use it on all of my current tattoos and I used it to help heal my most recent tattoo. The inflammation and tenderness of my new tattoo was gone after a day! I didn’t have the normal itchy, scabbing, peeling phase which was fantastic! This product can also be used as a moisturizer. Magen also has a face wash, eye cream and brownie batter honey scrub. Oh! did I mention all of Magen’s products are 100% all natural? That’s right they are made with green tea and honey! The tattoo aftercare is made with: green tea, honey, coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax. How cool is that?!
There you have it! My list of skincare products I don’t travel without. Do you use any of these products? Is there a skincare product out there I need to try? Let me know in the comments.
