One Year Blogiversary

imageExactly one year ago today, my first post went live on Coffee & Fernweh! Its crazy to think that I’ve been blogging for a year already, I guess it is true what they say, time flies when you’re having fun. I thought it would be fun to recap the last year for all of you (and myself) Before I get into the recap, I want to say thank you to everyone who follows me on social media, here on Coffee & Fernweh or both. To everyone who takes the time to read my blog posts, thank you so much, I hope my travel adventures and coffee addiction have helped you in some way in your own travels.

Hi! My name is Melina, and I’m a coffee addict. In the last year I’ve visited and written about twenty-two coffee shops all over the US (by the time this post comes out it will be more like 23 and probably into the 30s by the end of the year). These are my favorite of the last year:

Corner Place: Whittier, CA

Goddess and The Baker: Chicago, IL

Enchanted Coffee Bar: La Mirada, CA

Dripp: Chino Hills and Fullerton, CA

Intelligentsia: Chicago and Pasadena, CA

Aloha Roastery: Old Koloa Town, Kauai

Island Vintage Coffee: Ka’anapali, Hawaii

It was a decent year for travel, I was able to get to five different cities on six different getaways. Plus numerous local adventures here in LA. Here are the cities I visited plus some of my favorite posts from each.

Boston: April 2017 I didn’t write about this trip, it was a short one and it poured rain most of the time my mom and I were in the city. We only got one day of sunshine and we spent it with family.

Seattle: August 2017

Starbucks Reserve Roastery & Tasting Room

Maui: October 2017

Maui: Day One & Two, Restaurants and Coffee

Kauai: January 2018

Kauai, Safari Helicopter, Kōloa Rum Company

Maui: February 2018

Whale Watching, Maui, Ka’anapali Alii & Ka’anapali Beach

Chicago: March 2018

Afternoon Tea: Langham Hotel, Chicago Restaurants, City Winery Chicago Igloo

LA Local Series

Perfect Afternoon in DTLA, Malibu Wine Safari

I have a few more local adventures planned, as well as a trip to The Big Island and Maui before the year ends.

Guest Posts/Features

I’ve been incredibly lucky to contribute guest posts to some amazing blogs over the past year. I’m so grateful to be apart of a fantastic and supportive blogging community and to have met (virtually, hopefully one day in person) some amazing female bloggers. I know I’ve said it before, but I can’t thank you ladies enough for giving me the incredible opportunity to write for your blogs.

I was presented with another unbelievable opportunity recently. I partnered with Close Knit Co. on their Etsy shop to launch three Coffee & Fernweh tees and tanks. Available right now is a tee in unisex or women’s sizing, a women’s muscle tank and a men’s tank. They are currently only available for a limited time, if they do well enough they might stick around a little longer. Head on over to Close Knit Co.’s Etsy shop to support and grab your tee or tank!

Overall, my first year blogging has been a fantastic adventure. I learned a lot and made a lot of mistakes along the way. I can’t wait to see what year two has in store for me and Coffee & Fernweh.

What would you like to see more of on Coffee & Fernweh? Is there anything you would want done differently? Let me know in the comments below or email me at

  1. Congrats on 1 year Melina! The first year is the hardest part in a lot of ways, and you made it through! I’ve loved following your travels and blogging journey thus far and I can’t wait to see more.
