Bark Coffee & Local Fixture

BARK & LOCAL FIXTURE--I love exploring local coffee shops, especially in Uptown Whittier. In this post I explore Bark and Local Fixture.Exploring Uptown Whittier brings back a lot of memories from my high school days. Even though Uptown isn’t the same as it was back then, I still enjoy exploring and finding new coffee shops. In this post I’ll be covering two coffee shops, Local Fixture and Bark Coffee.

Local Fixture is located on Bright Ave, I was really excited when I found this shop because they serve one of my favorite roasters, Stumptown. Local Fixture is actually a cute little store with a coffee kiosk tucked away in the back. I thought the coffee area would be bigger than it actually is. There is one table in the back with the kiosk and a few more tables outside of the store. The menu is really small, only eleven drinks to choose from. The pastry selection was very small, only a few donuts on a covered cake plate and that was it. After I ordered my drinks, I went to look through the store they have some cute things; books, socks, travel mugs , etc. I took my drinks outside, I got an iced mocha and a nitro cold brew. The iced mocha was good, the mocha was sweet but it had a strong espresso taste. It wasn’t the best mocha I’ve had but I would get it again. The nitro cold brew was strong but smooth with a nice foam on top. It was citrusy with a nice lingering acidity. I’m glad I tried Local Fixture, I don’t know if I would go back. I like it when my coffee shop is just a coffee shop, but it wasn’t the worst place I’ve been.

Bark Coffee is on Philadelphia St. This shop got five stars on Yelp! and to be honest, I don’t know why. The menu is small as was the pastry selection. There are plenty of seating options. When I was there, there were only a couple people in the coffee shop, it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. The coffee shop was very clean and only a couple of art pieces on the walls. I got a short mocha to-go since I had a nail appointment to get to. It was the worst mocha I’ve ever had. The milk was steamed way too hot it tasted burnt plus it wasn’t aerated properly it was flat. Even the espresso tasted burnt. I could not taste any mocha in the drink at all. If I didn’t have some place to be I would have returned the drink instead of throwing it straight in the trash. I was incredibly disappointed in this coffee shop, and will definitely not be going back.
